Patna : Reigning olympic champion and World 8 in Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings Carolina Marin, 25, Spain, beat World No 3 P V Sindhu, 23, India, in straight games in the final on August 5, 2018, to win the BWF World Championship title for the third time.

Marin comfortably beat Sindhu 21-19, 21-10 in 45 minute in the final of World Championship at Nanjing, China, to win the Gold Medal. For the second consecutive year, Sindhu ended up winning Silver Medal. Marin, who had won Gold Medal in 2016 Rio Olympics, had earlier won the BWF World Championship in 2014 in Denmark and in 2015 in Indonesia.

In the Rio Olympic too, Marin had won Gold Medal beating Sindhu in the final. Marin had beaten Saina Nehwal, India, to win BWF World Championship title in Indonesia in 2015.
