New Delhi : The bye elections to two seats of Bihar Legislative Council  by the members of Legislative Assembly will be held on January 28, 2021. The two Council seats had fallen vacant following election of former Minister and BJP leader Vinod Narayan Jha to Bihar Legislative Assembly and former Deputy CM and senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi’s election to the Rajya Sabha. This caused two casual vacancies in Bihar Legislative Council.

The Election Commission of India has decided to hold two separate bye-elections to Bihar Legislative Council by the members of the Legislative Assembly to fill the two aforesaid vacancies. The poll notifications will be issued on January 11, 2021. The last date of filing nominations is January 18, 2021, according to a PIB release. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is January 21, 2021. The counting votes will votes will be taken up on January 28, 2021, itself.

Broad Guidelines to be followed during entire election process for all persons: –

I.          Every person shall wear face mask during every election related activity

II.         At the entry into hall/ room/ premises used for election purposes:

(a) Thermal Scanning of all persons shall be carried out

(b) Sanitiser shall be made available at all locations

III.        Social distancing shall be maintained as per the extant COVID-19 guidelines of the State Govt. and Ministry of Home Affairs.

The Chief Secretary, Bihar, is being directed to depute a senior officer from the State to ensure that the extant instructions regarding COVID-19 containment measures are complied with while making arrangements for conducting the elections.
