Patna: The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) has withheld the result of the 13 toppers in arts and science streams of Intermediate examinations following exposure of their talent on electronic  media. The state government has ordered a high level inquiry into the results scam and education minister Ashok Kumar Chaudhury has promised action against the guilty including against BSEB officials. He apprehended involvement of education mafia in the scam.

The BSEB has called all the 13 toppers at board office on Friday for tests before the experts, said board chairman Lalkeshwar Prasad Singh. The board had postponed publication of results four times-between April 18 and May 28.  It issued public notices in newspapers on Thursday morning asking students concerned to appear before the board failing which their result would be cancelled. Two toppers in arts and science are students of  Vishnudeo Rai College, Bhagwanpur, Vaishali. The students will have to appear at the written examination   to satisfy the expertsbesides the interview. The college is managed by a senior RJD leader. Last year too, students of the same institution had topped the examination. The functioning the board has come under scanner as 222 students obtained identical marks at the examnation.

Two years back, photographs of the mass scale cheating and malpractices at BSEB matriculation examinations had tarnished the image of the state as helpers were shown supplying materials to examinees risking their lives by hanging literally in the air on different floors of an examination centre in North Bihar.
