Saharsa : A seven year old boy Amrit Kumar died on July 11, 2017, after he was administered an injection by a quack Satish Kumar at a private clinic run by Dr Kavita Chaudhary, an Ayurved, at Santnagar Chowk under Sadar police station (PS), Saharsa. The quack and employees escaped from the clinic after death of the boy.

Furious over the death of Amrit, his kin and the locals vandalised the clinic and staged demonstration with the body at Santnagar Chowk blocking the Saharsa – Madhepura bypass road. They burnt tyres on the road and raised slogans against Saharsa district administration. The local alleged that police allowed Dr Kavita Chaudhary to escape from the clinic. She escaped in the presence of an ASI Awadhesh Ram, the mob alleged. Dr Chadudhary was later taken into police custody and brought over to Sadar police station.

When ASI Ram reached Santnagar chowk to pacify the mob, he was pelted with stones by the people in which he and a Homeguard jawan were injured. Later,  police force led by SHO, Sadar police station, Bhai Bharat, reached Santnagar Chowk and resorted to lathicharge to disperse the mob. Several persons were injured in the lathicharge. Finally, police brought the body over to Sadar police station.

The boy was taken to the clinic by his father Niraj Kumar Sah, a resident of village Garhia Balam in Madhepura district, for operation of an abscess in his armpit. When Amrit’s  condition started deteriorating, Satish told his father that the boy had to be admitted to an ICU. Amrit was being taken to Swaraj Hospital but died on the way. Dr Kavita Chadhary said that she had not administered injection to Amrit. She said that Satish Kumar was neither a doctor nor her staff. She, however, admitted that some mistakes did take place at the clinic.

Niraj had met Satish Kumar at his village Garhia Balam on July 10. Satish had introduced himself as doctor there and had even examined Amrit and suggested an operation. Satish had told Niraj Sah that the operation would cost Rs 2, 000 and asked him to reach his Saharsa clinic on July 11. SHO Bhai Bharat said that Niraj had lodged a complaint with the police station and police were looking into it. But, police will also take action against those who attacked police personnel, the SHO added.
