Boy beaten to death in clash at dance programme in Bhojpur

Ara : A 15 year old boy of mahadalit community was beaten to death in Chandawa locality under Nawada police station, Ara, in the wee hour on April 30, 2018, in a clash at a dance programme during a marriage ceremony. Police arrested four perosns and rescued 80 captives incluidng the bride and her mother.

SDPO, Ara, Sanjay Kumar said that a ‘baarat’ from Navanagar in Buxar district had come to Sukhi Yadav’s place in Chandawa locality under Nawada police station in Bhojpur district on April 29, 2018. A dance programme was also organized and a number of people of the area had gathered to enjoy the dance performance. During dance programme, two  groups clashed in inebiritated state over a trivial and in no time the entire area turned into a battle ground during which a 15 year old youth was beaten to death and over two dozen persons from both the sides including the father of the bride were injured.

As the news of murder spread, hundreds of people of mahadalit community surrounded the area and made all the people from bride and bridegroom sides captive. They entered the house of the bride demanding justice and did not allow over 80 persons to come out of the house. They also damaged vehicles, tent, chairs, microphones and windowpans of vehicles.

The SDPO said that police succeeded in getting the body of the deceased after much persuassion and brought it to over to Ara Sadar Hospital and also admitted the injured there. He said that police conducted raids at different houses and arrested four persons and also freed all the 80 persons including the bride and her mother Urmati Devi but the whereabouts of the bridegroom is not known.
