Ara : Frequent attack on cops by bootleggers and criminals at different places in Bhojpur district in the past few weeks has shocked the people besides causing concern to the district administration. A police team was attacked by liquor smugglers at village Sarna under Shahpur police station on September 4, 2018, night, in which 6 police personnel including the Station House Officers of Shahpur and Chauri police stations were injured and were admitted to Shahpur Referral Hospital.

A police team, on a tip off, reached village Sarna on September 4 night and entered the house of Jay Ram Singh to arrest him. Singh’s family members had a heated exchange and scuffle with police personnel. The villagers and Jay Ram Singh’s family members thrashed the cops and also pelted them with stones in which 6 of them were injured. Later, the doctors referred the T N Singh, SI, Shahpur police station, and SHO, Chauri police station, to Ara Sadar Hospital. The police team had to make a hasty retreat.

T N Singh, SI, said at Sadar Hospital that he got information that Indian Made Foreign Liquor was stored at  the house of Jay Ram Singh hence a police team went there to conduct raid but as police entered the house and tried to arrest him, his family members and even the villagers attacked the cops. On the other hand, the villagers alleged that police forcibly entered the house of Jay Ram Singh without search warrant and a lady constable and so they objected to it but police threatened to implicate them in false cases. They refuted the charge of stone pelting.

Earlier, police were pelted with stones and shooed away when they tried to prevent an unruly mob from setting ablaze shops and vehicles and also disrobing and parading a woman naked in Bihia after recovery of  body of a youth from the railway track at Bihia railway station on August 20, 2018. Several police personnel including SHO, Bihia police station, Kuer Gupta were injured in the incident.

The villagers had attacked a police team and also shot at and injured the Station House Officer, Sahar police station, Sanjay Kumar, when they police had gone there to take the body of a slain youth on August 18, 2018.

The bootleggers had attacked a police team and injured about a dozen of police personnel when they went to Mushahar Toli in  Chandawa locality under Nawada police station on August 19, 2018. The bootleggers also made captive a police personnel who was later released after intervention of locals.

In another incident, the bootleggers attacked cops when a police team reached Barhara to conduct raids on August 24, 2018. Several police personnel were injured in the attack. A police team was attacked and fired upon when it went to Jagdihpur area to arrest membders of sand mafia.
