Bokaro ( Jharkhand ) : Having failed to check rising incidents of robberies (46 robberies in last 60 days ) in houses under different sectors of Bokaro Steel City, Chas township, and industrial areas of  Bokaro thermal power station township, Chandrapura, Gomia and Bermo , Bokaro  police has adopted poster campaign to create awareness among people to stop robberies and identifying of criminals by seeking  people’s cooperation. Not only poster and bills are being distributed among the people, police vehicles with big posters  have started plying on road. Bokaro SP has also sought people’s through social media  which is being flashed  on mobile phones.

The posters suggest residents to adopt 17 ways to check crime including fixing strong  grills with strong gates, closing doors and windows  while going out, installation of safety chains and entrance door volts, installation of CCTV,  house alarm system & door camera besides not to talk in front  of domestic servants and unknown persons about journey programme. The other advises given by police in the poster are: Deal with scrape sellers, hawkers, plumbers and electricians with caution remaining from inside the gate, keeping at least one or two lights on in room, not to open cupboard in front of domestic servants, keep valuables in bank lockers before leaving the house. The other valuable advise includes not to give rooms on rent to unknown persons without verifying their identities.

When contacted , Bokaro SP Y S Ramesh stated this is an awareness drive to educate masses how to avoid petty crime including robberies. “ We have flashed phone numbers of police officers and police station besides  emergency number to give information about unknown faces or criminals which can lead to arrest of unwanted elements. Cooperation of people is very important  in checking crime. Residents have already been asked to inform  nearby police station if they are leaving their houses for long journey,” the SP said.
