Patna/ Chappra : Armed criminals gunned down BJP leader Acharya Keshvanand Giri at Manjhi under Manjhi police station in Saran district late on January 25 night. The deceased is BJP MP’s representative from Manjhi and is a well known figure of the district.

As the news of Giri’s killing spread in the locality, the villagers came out on the road  to protest the killing. On getting information, the local police reached the spot and sent the body to Chhapra Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

Quoting deceased’s wife, police said that someone called Giri out from his house on the pretext of bike going out of order and shot him dead on Manjhi-Bangra road at around 11 pm on January 25 night and escaped from there, police added. Manjhi police station SHO said that an FIR against some unknown persons had been lodged in this connection. He said prima facie, it seems some persons known to Giri might have called him outside his house and murdered him.
