Ara : Hundreds of activists of Bhojpuria Jan Jagran (BJM) led by their district president Kumud Patel staged a day long dharna in front of the office of Bhojpur District Magistrate on July 13, 2017, for inclusion of Bhojpuri language in the VIII schedule of the Indian Constitution, creation of Bhojpuranchal State and strict ban on the vulgar songs.

Addressing the gathering, Kumud Patel said that Bhojpuri is spoken in 38 districts of Bihar, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhatisgarh and even in Mauritius by at least 2.8 crore people. He said that the Simakant Mahapatra Commission constituted by the union government had, in its report, stated that the Bhojpuri language qualified for inclusion of in the VIII schedule of the Indian Constitution. But, he said, the central government has remained indifferent to their long pending demand. Later,  a delegation met the DM and handed him over their charter of demands addressed to the Prime Minister.
