Ara : Mutton and Vegetable markets located at Bihia in Bhojpur district have remained neglected for the last two decades even as they generate a revenue of over Rs 8 lakh per annum. Bihia is 22 km away from Ara, headquarters of Bhojpur district. The two markets are located in a dilapidated shed at Raja Bazaar, the busiest place in Bihia.

Every year Bhojpur district administration puts these two markets on auction but never bothers to provide basic amenities there despite earning over Rs 8 lakh as revenue per year. As a result, the passers by and the residents of the area have to face a lot of  problems as foul smell emits from the meat and  rotten vegetables particularly during rainy season creating unhygienic condition. A number of government officials and school and colleges students pass through this road daily. Keeping the two markets clean is the responsibility of Bihia Nagar Panchayat.

Rajiv Kumar, Town manager, Nagar Panchayat, Bihia, said that the Nagar Panchayat is trying to develop the meat and vegetable markets and the employees had been directed to keep them clean.
