Patna : State Cabinet, at its meeting on August 29, 2017, sanctioned Rs 1,935 crore as advance from Bihar Contingency Fund for the relief and rehabitilation works in 19 flood affected district of Bihar. Principal Secretary, Cabinet Secretariat Department, Brijesh Mehrotra said that Rs 900 crore would be spent on distribution of relief to the flood-affected people while Rs 947 crore would be spent on supplying them foodgrains.

Mehrotra said Rs 6,000 will be given as relief to every flood-affected person. The money would be deposited into the accounts of the beneficiaries. That apart, Rs 8 crore would be spent on giving ex-gratia to the families which lost their members in the floods, Rs 20 crore for repair of damaged houses and Rs 20 crore for giving agriculture input grant for crop damage, Mehrotra said. The flood has so far claimed 514 human lives in Bihar. Meanwhile, the flood situation on August 29 showed signs of improvement in the state.
