Patna : Bihar Industries Association (BIA) organised a full-day Workshop-cum-Interactive Session on Goods and Services Tax (GST) on its premises on June 25, 2017. Arun Mishra, Additional Secretary, Department of Commercial Taxes, Government of Bihar was Chief Guest and Vinayak C Gupta, Commissioner, Custom (Preventive), Bihar, was  the Guest of Honour at the GST session whereas CA Jayesh Gupta and CA Niraj Horodia attended the programme as experts.

Jayesh Gupta, CA,  is a Senior Tax Consultant and visiting faculty at XLRI, Jamshedpur, Direct Tax Training Institute, Income Tax Department, Kolkata, and Indirect Taxes Training Institute of Excise & Service Tax Department, Kolkata. Niraj Harodia is a qualified Chartered Accountant and Senior partner of JPNR Consultants and provides tax consultancy services to many firms.

The GST workshop started with a Power-point presentations by Jayesh Gupta and Niraj Harodia  starting with the basics of GST and its implications on current businesses. Various topics like Input Tax Credit (ITC), Reverse Charge Mechanism and Transitional Provisions of GST was discussed in detail with practical examples. One of the key issues was the Transitional Input Tax Credit and Deemed Credit to be availed by assessee who do not have excise paid document. Various queries were answered during the presentation. The second half of the six hour session focused on various doubts. Arun Mishra and Vinayak C Gupta also added their valuable input as and when required at the workshop.

The day long session was attended by more than 150 persons including BIA members led by its President  Ram Lall Khetan, vice-presidents A K P Sinha and Sanjay Kr. Bhartiya, and Arvind Kumar Singh, Secretary General,  former BIA presidents K PS Keshri and Arun Agarwal, and S  S Khadria and Arun Kumar Khowala, Co-Chairman of Taxation Sub-Committee, BIA.
