Patna: Bihar Human Rights Commission (BHRC) on Monday asked for a detail report from Vaishali SP before July 20 about alleged suicide by an acid attack victim girl at village Anwarpur under Sarai police station in the district on July 3, 2016. The Vaishali SP has also been asked to inform the commission whether the accused were granted bail in the case due to any failure on the part of police and whether any subsequent threats by the accused were reported to police and their response?
The report will also mention whether compensation of Rs 3 lakh was paid to the victim by the Legal Services Authority under Victim Compensation Scheme, 2014, notified by Bihar government, according to BHRC member Neelmani. The scheme provides for payment of payment of Rs 3 lakh to the acid attack victims as aftercare and rehabilitation measure. Rs one lakh has to be paid to the victim within 15 days of the information of the incident and remaining Rs two lakh within two months of the aforesaid payment.
BHRC has taken suo motu cognizance of the media reports about suspected death of an acid attack victim by electrocution at village Anwarpur on July 3. The newspaper reports indicate that she was living in extreme depression and mental agony since the incident took place with her on September 24, 2014, when three ruffians of her village threw acid on her face when she resisted eve teasing by them. She was reportedly under depression due to the inability of her parents to take action against the accused who had come out on bail. The BHRC has listed the matter on July 20, 2016.
