Ara : Bhojpur DM Birendra Prasad Yadav on February 15, 2017, suspended the District Welfare Officer (DWO), Bhojpur, Vijay Kumar Tiwary, Principal, Government Ambedkar Residential Girls High School (GARGHS), Ara, Gautam Kumar and Hostel Superintendent, GARGHS, Suryakant Singh for their laxity and dereliction of duty.

The DM forwarded the matter to the Secretary, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes Welfare Department for departmental proceeding and requested him to appoint capable DWO, Principal and the Hostel Superintendent in their place in Bhojpur district.

Nitu Kumari, a class X student of GARGHS, Ara, daughter of Jiut Ram of Chaptahi village under Dhansoi police station in Buxar district, had died under mysterious circumstances on February 11, 2017. She was suffering from some problems for four days and was admitted to Ara Sadar Hospital on February 9, 2017. She was discharged from the hospital the same day after administrating her some medicine. She again complained of giddiness and vomiting tendency since morning on February 10, 2017, but neither the school administration nor the DWO thought it necessary to take her to the hospital and she died in the evening the same day. Though Civil Surgeon (CS) Dr Ras Bihari Singh himself declared her dead but Ara SDO Navdeep Shukla got the dead girl administered saline.

Taking serious note the matter, Bhojpur DM Birendra Prasad Yadav formed a two man committee comprising Ara SDO Navdeep Shukla and SDPO Sanjay Kumar to inquire into the matter. The committee submitted its report to the DM on February 15 holding the DWO, Principal and Hostel Superintendent, responsible for death of Nitu Kumari. Acting on the inquiry report, the DM suspended the DWO, Principal, GARGHS, and  Hostel Superintendent, GARGHS.
