Ara: Bhojpur DM Birendra Prasad Yadav and SP Kshatranil Singh have formed an inquiry committee to probe into  Garhani Cattle Fare incident in which two persons and over two dozen cattle were electrocuted to death on September 5.

The two persons, who were killed in the incident, were identified as Hare Krishna of Milki village under Udwantnagar police station and Kamta Rai of Fuha village under Barahara police station in Bhojpur district. The injured persons are undergoing treatment at Ara Sadar Hospital. Bhojpur district administration, on  the direction of DM Birendra Prasad Yadav, gave a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to each to deceased within hours of the incident.

A cattle fair is held in a field at Garhani on the first week of every month and thousands of people gather there either to visit the fair or buy cattle. On September 5, when the cattle fair was on with hundreds of people visting it, a live 11,000 volt electric wire passing overhead through the fair ground suddenly snapped and fell on the ground in which two persons were electrocuted to death while over two dozen persons were injured. Besides, over two dozen buffalos were also electrocuted to death and about a dozen were injured.
