Nawada: A doctors’ team from Beur Central Jail, Patna, visited Nawada sub-jail and organized a medical camp to treat a large number of inmates. The Gaya jail superintendent accompanied the doctors to Nawada sub-jail. Over 100 inmates were examined, according to Nawada jail superintendent Ramadhar Singh.

Pandemonium had broken out in Nawada jail due to the apathetic attitude of jail staff which had resulted in death of Arvind Singh, a life convict. The inmates had resorted to a lightning fast in protest and the jail authorities were at their wits end to restore normalcy. Arvind, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for killing a co-villager Pappu Singh at village Bhagatpur under Kashichak PS in 2007, was seriously ill but jail doctors referred him to sadar hospital from where he was in turn referred to PMCH where he died on August 16. Two other patients are undergoing treatment at sadar hospital.

The doctors who visited Nawada sub-jail included Roshan, N Imam, Miraj-ul-Haq, and dentist Santosh Babu. Viral infection has gripped the inmates.
