Patna : World No 8 Matteo Berrettini, 23, Italy, beat World No 5 Dominic Thiem, 26, Austria, in straight sets in Group Bjorn Borg match in Nitto ATP Finals on November 14, 2019, recording his first win in the tournament in three Group stage matches. Berrettini, the 8th seed, defeated 5th seed Thiem 7-6, 6-3 in 76 minutes at O2 Arena, London, UK.

The Italian won 2 break points to 1 by the Austrian. He won 3 games in a row in the match to 2 by Thiem. Both the players fired 5 Aces each in the match. Berrettini won 47 service points to 39 by the Austrian. Berrettini’s winning percentage both on his first and second serve (85 % & 75%) was much higher than that Thiem ( 0 % & 58 %).

Thiem had defeated World No 3 and six-time champion Roger Federer, 38, Switzerland, and World No 2 and five-time champion Novak Djokovic, 32, Serbia, in his first and second match respectively and qualified for the SFs. Berrettini, on the other, had lost his first match to Djokovic and second match to Federer in Group Bjorn Borg.
