Belsand Sub-division declared ODF

Sitamarhi: Belsand sub-division of Sitamarhi district was declared Open defecation free (ODF) on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on Sunday. The sub-division comprises two blocks : Belsand and Parsauni, and 16 Panchayats.

Sitamarhi DM Rajiv Raushan said that the district administration has taken initiative under Swachcha Bharat Abhiyan and technical assistance was being provided in the construction of toilets in the households under the aegis of UNICEF. The district administration has been toiling hard to make all the panchayats in the district ODF, the DM said.
It may be mentioned here that with the technical assistance of the UNICEF, the district administration, in a bid to replenish groundwater on the occasion of Earth Day 2016, constructed 2,168 soakpits on the premises of the schools, government buildings and police buildings. The initiative improved sanitation around the handpumps. The district
administration’s feat of constructing soakpits in a single day has been entered into the Limca Book of Records.
