Patna : World No 11 Ashleigh Barty, 22, Australia, upset World No 7 Karolina Pliskova, 27, Czech Republic, in straight sets to lift WTA Miami Open women’s singles tile at Hard Rock Stadium, Florida, USA, on  March 30, 2019, late night, winning the biggest title of her career. Barty beat Pliskova 7-6, 6-3 in the final to win her fifth career title.

Barty, who had defeated World No 2 Petra Kvitová, 28, in the QFs, dominated the proceedings althrough the final match winning the first set tie-breaker easily and then swept aside Pliskova in the second set.

Barty fired 15 Aces in the match to 6 by Pliskova. Both the players committed 2 double faults each. Barty broke Pliskova’s service thrice in the match while the latter broke her service once. Both the players won 3 games each in a row during the match. Barty’s winning percentage both on her first and second serve ( 86% & 55%) was much better than that of Pliskova (65% & 45%).

Pliskova, who had defeated World No 3 Simona Halep, 27, Romania, in the semi-finals, was bidding for her 13th WTA title. Barty had reached QFs of Australian Open 2019. Barty will move up in the WTA rankings to be released on April 1, 2019, by winning Miami Open title, a WTA Premium Mandatory event, getting 1,000 points.
