Patna : Top seed and reigning Wimbledon champion Ashleight Barty, 25, Australia, defeated 27th seed Danielle Collings, 28, USA, in straight sets in women’s singles final on Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne Park, Australia, on January 29, 2022, to win the Australian Open (AO) 2022 title, her third Grand Slam singles title after French Open and Wimbledon titles. She is the first Australian woman to win the AO singles title since 1978. Barty did not drop a set in the entire tournament.
World No 1 Barty beat World No 30 Collins 6-3, 7-6 in the final to win the singles title. Barty easily won the first set winning 1 break point but Collins put up a very strong resistance in the second set taking it to tiebreak. The America, in fact, was leading 5-1 in the second set breaking Barty’s service twice. But, Barty too broke Collins service twice to make it 5-5 in the second set. Barty won 3 break points in the match to 2 by the American.

The Australian won 4 games in a row during the match to 3 by Collins. Barty won the lone tiebreak too. Barty hammered 10 Aces during the Barty’s winning percentage on her first serve ( 84%) was much better than that of Collins’ ( 63%). But, Collins’ winning percentage on her second serve ( 55%) was better than that of Barty’s ( 48%). Barty, in all, won 71 points during the match to 60 by Collins.
