Patna : Freestyle wrestler Bajrang Punia, 24, from Jhajjar, Haryana, won first gold medal for India in the 18th Asian Games in the 65kg category defeating Takatani Daichi, Japan, 11-8 in the final on August 19, 2018, at Jakarta, Indonesia. At one stage Punia had taken a 6-0 lead over Daichi in the final.
Punia had also won gold medal at 2018 Commonwealth Games (CWG) at Gold Coast, Australia, in the same category. He had won silver medal in 61 kg category in 2014 Asian Games at Incheon, South Korea.
