Bagaha : Kamalnath Tiwari sub-divisional hospital, Bagaha, was vandalised by an irate mob on April 16, 2017, morning following the death of a patient Purnmasi Baitha, 55, of Dindayalnagar locality under Bagaha Nagar Parishad in West Champaran disrict.

Sources alleged that Dr A K Tiwari, who was on duty did not attend the critically ill patient as he  was allegedly busy taking his breakfast. This delayed the treatment resulting in the death of the patient. The news of his death spread like wildfire and over a 100 strong mob comprising patient’s relatives and neighbours reached the hospital shouting slogans against hospital staff and went on rampage. The doctor concerned fled the scene to save his life.

The mob ransacked the hospital and  glass panels of windows and furniture were smashed to bits. Some medical staff sustained minor injuries in the incident. On getting information, police force along with Bagaha SDM Dharmendra Kumar, SDPO Sanjiv Kumar, SHO, Bagaha police station, Mohd Ayub, BDO Anand Vibhuti reached there to pacify the people.

SDM Dharmendra Kumar said that due to alleged negligence on the part of the doctor, the patient  died. The SDM, after consulting higher authorities of the state health department, informed that the will be shifted from here immediately and disciplinary action would be taken against him.

Ramashis Baitha, one of the kin of deceased, has lodged a complaint with Bagaha town police station against Dr Tiwary under the various sections of IPC including murder and Scheduled Caste Atrocity Prevention Act, sources said. Bagaha town police station SHO Mohd Ayub said that police are investigating into the complaint.
