Patna : Australia beat India by 8 wickets in the second session of play on Day 3 in the pink ball test at Adelaide Oval, Adelaide, Australia, on December 19, 2020, to go 1-0 in the four-match series. Australian captain Tim Paine was named Player Of The Match.

After the match, Captain Virat Kohli said that India was in good position after the first two days but then collapsed on Day 3. He said that the  batsmen lacked intent while the Australian bowlers bowled in good areas. It is very hard to put the feeling into words.The defeat hurts, he said.  Australian captain Tim Paine said he did not expect such result so quickly. I was expecting a tough battle, he said.

Chasing a target of 90 runs, Australia scored 93/2 in 21 overs with opener Joe Burns scoring an unbeaten 51 in 63 balls with 7 fours and 1 six while his opening partner Matthew Wade was run out for 33 in 53 balls with 5 fours. Marnus Labuschagne, who had scored 47 in the first innings, fell to spinner Ravichandran Ashwin for 6. Steven Smith remained 1 not out.Joe Burns and Wade added 70 runs for the first wicket.

Earlier r, resuming at their overnight score of 9/1, India collapsed to be 36/9 in 21.2 overs, India’s lowest ever score in test cricket, with Mohd Shami getting retired out due to injury. Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, and Ravichandran Ashwin were out for a duck while captain Virat Kohli scored 4. Openers Mayan Agarwal and Prithvi Shaw scored 9 and 4 runs respectively. All-rounder Hanuma Vihari scored 8 runs while Wriddhiman Saha (wk) scored 4.

Fast bowler Josh Hazlewood took 5/8 while Pat Cummins took 4/21. None of the Indian batsmen could reach double figure.
