Patna : Australia defeated India by 35 runs in the 5th ODI at Feroz Shah Kotla Fround, Delhi, on March 13, 2019, night, to win the five-match series 3-2 coming back from 0-2 down. Electing to bat after winning the toss, Australia scored a competitive 272/9 in 50 overs with opener Usman Khawaja scoring 100 in 106 balls with 10 fours and 2 sixes, Peter Handscomb 52, captain Aaron Finch 27, and fast bowler Jhye Richardson 29 ( run out). Usman Khawaja was named Player of the Match as well as Player of the Series. It was India’s first series loss at home since October 2015.
For India, Bhuvaneshwar Prasad took 3/48 while Mohammad Shami took 2/58. Spinner Ravindra Jadeja took 2/45 while Kuldeep Yadav took 1/74. Bowlers failed India in both 4th and 5th ODI giving away took many runs in the death overs.
Chasing a target of 273, India were all out for 237 in 50 overs with opener Rohit Sharma scoring 56 in 89 balls with only 4 fours, captain Virat Kohli 20, Kedar Jadhav 44 in 57 balls, and Bhuvaneshwar Prasad 46 in 54 balls. Ravindra Jadeja was out without scoring while Shikhar Dhawan made 12. Vijay Shankar and Rishabh Pant scored 16 each.
For Australia, spinner Adam Zampa took 3/46 while fast bowler Pat Cummins took 2/38. Fast bowler Jhye Richardson took 2/47 in 10 overs while Marcus Stoinis took 2/31 in 4 overs. Nathan Lyon took 1/34 in 10 overs.
