Patna : Electing to bat after winning the toss, Australia were 221/2 in 89 overs at stumps on day 1 in their first innings in 2nd test against England at Adelaide Oval, Australia, on December 16, 2021, with Marnus Labuschagne unbeaten on 95 runs in 275 balls with 7 fours and captain Steven Smith batting on 18 in 71 balls with 2 fours.
Australia lost their first wicket that of opener Marcus Harris with only 4 runs on board. Marcus fell to fast bowler Stuart Broad for 3. But opener David Warner and Labuschagne added 172 runs for the 2nd wicket. Warner fell to all-rounder Ben Stokes for 95 in 167 balls with 11 fours making it 176/2. Labuschagne and Smith have added 45 runs their unbroken partnership for the 3rd wicket.
Smith is leading Australia in this test in the absence of regular captain and fast bowler Pat Cummins. For England, both James Anderson and Stuard Broad are playing in 2nd test. Australia had won the 1st test and lead the five-match Ashes Series 1-0.
