Gopalganj: Five suspects carrying arms and ammunition from Munger to Uttar Pradesh before assembly elections were arrested by a team of ATS close to Bihar border on January 9. Acting on the revelations made by the arrested persons, another ATS team arrested five persons from Varanasi in UP and also seized huge cache of arms and ammunition from there. Two luxury vehicles were also seized by the ATS teams.

Sources said that ATS got information that some people were trying to sneak into Uttar Pradesh through NH-28 in Gopalganj carrying arms and ammunition with them. An ATS team laid trap on highway under Kuchaikot police station in Gopalganj district close to Bahadurpur police outpost in neighbouring Kushinagar in Uttar  Pradesh. They intercepted a Ford Endeavour car, bearing registration number of Delhi, and found 15 loaded pistols besides 30 magazines from the car.

All the five occupants were arrested immediately and were identified as Shiv Shyam Tiwary  and Devansh Pal Singh alias Mantoo,  natives of Terhi Bazaar locality in Balrampur district of Uttar Pradesh, Anubhav Tiwary, a native of Bhandarkhana, Ram Tiwary alias Rajan, a native of Balhua, and Vishal Kumar Gautam, a native of Girdharpur in Sant Kabirnagar.

Police said that acting on the revelations made by the arrested persons, another ATS team intercepted a Scorpio at Cholpur in Varanasi and arrested five persons. The team members seized four rifles of 315 bore, one pistol, two rifles, 30 cartridges of 315 bore, 13 cartridges of 12 bore and four cartridges of 12 bore. ATS teams are interrogating the arrested persons and their links with anti-nation elements.

ATS SSP Rajiv Sahni said that the seized weapons were manufactured in Munger (Bihar). He said that the arrested persons were being interrogated to know for whom they were carrying arms and ammunition.
