Ara Sadar hospital vandalised after a pregnant woman dies

Ara: Hundreds of residents of Ara went on rampage at Ara Sadar Hospital under Town police station and damaged property after a pregnant woman died in the operation theater at about 3.45pm on Wednesday. They also blocked the gate of the Sadar Hospital and raised slogans against the hospital administration and demanded immediate arrest of the doctor.

One Jugrani Devi, 32, wife of Karpuri Sharma of Bhaluhipur locality under Town police station was admitted to  Ara Sadar Hospital for delivery on Wednesday. Dr Arti Singh, who was on duty, attended her and when she complained of labour pain, the doctor took her to the operation theater and also administered her an injection. As the injection was administered, condition of the woman started deteriorating and she died on the operation table aafter which her family members and other residents of Ara got angry and staged  demonstration in front of the office of the Civil Surgeon.

Sensing the mood of the people, hospital staffs and doctor disappeared from the scene. The residents alleged that Dr Arti Singh and her husband Dr Pranav Kumar run a private clinic and a pathological laboratory at Mahavir Tola locality under Town police station and always force the patients to go to their private clinic for better treatment. The husband of the deceased alleged that Dr Arti Singh had asked him to bring the patient to her private clinic but as he was very poor, he brought his wife to the  Sadar Hospital instead, where she died.
