Ara : The inmates of Ara Remand Home, who are protesting lack of civic amenities at Remand Home since March 11, 2018, went on rampage on March 13, 2018, morning alleging Remand Home authorities were yet to respond to their demands. They also raised slogans against the Remand Home authorities.
The inmates said that Ara Remand Home is the lone Remand Home in the erstwhile Shahabad district that comprised the present Bhojpur, Buxar, Kaimur and Rohtas district. The protesting inmates alleged that they were being treated like animals at the Remand Home. They said their indefinite fast would continue till their demands are conceded.
Neeraj Kumar, Superintendent Incharge, Ara Remand Home, said that at present 42 juveniles are lodged at Ara Remand Home and they went on indefinite fast on March 11, 2018, demanding basic amenities and mosquito nets but they had called off their agitation on March 12 after positive assurance but on March 13 morning, they again went on hunger strike and vandalized all the furniture.
Superintendent Incharge, Ara Remand Home, Neeraj Kumar said that as the mosquito nets could not be supplied to them in the evening on March 12, they again resorted to agitation. He said that mosquito nets had been purchased and would be given to them within two hours.
