Patna : World No 188 Ankita Raina, 26, India, entered the semi-finals of ITF women’s  tournament ( ITF India 04A) at Solapur, Maharashtra, India, beating World No 368 Sandra Samir, 22, Egypt, in a three-set thriller in quarter-finals on December 6, 2019.

Second seed Ankita Raina beat Sandra Samir 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 battling back from one set down in QFs. Raina won 7 break points in the match to 6 by Samir. The India, however, committed 7 double faults to 1 by the Egyptian. Samir won 7 games in a row in the match to 6 by Raina. But, Raina won 46 service points to 37 by Samir. Raina’s winning percentage on her 2nd serve was much higher (53%) than that of the Eyptian ( 36%). But, Samir’s winning percentage on her first serve was slightly higher (57%) than that of Raina ( 55%).

Raina will face World No 342 Katie Boulter, 23, UK, in the SFs on December 7, 2019. Boulter defeated World No 246 Ulrikke Eikeri, 26, Norway,  6-4, 6-3 in QFs on December 6 winning 3 break points. Top seed and World No 187 Valeria Savinykh, Russia,  lost to 6th seed and World No 250 Diana Marcinkevica, Latvia,  4-6, 3-6 in QFs.
