Patna : World No 21 Roberto Bautista Agut, Spain, World No 23 Denis Shapovalov, Canada, World No 28 Felix Auger Aliassime, Canada, and World No 46 Taylor Fritz, USA, have advanced to the quarter-finals of ATP Lyon Open, Lyon, France, a 250 point clay court tournament.
Agut, 31, the 2nd seed, beat defeated World No 117 Corentin Moutet, 20, France, in a three-set thriller 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in 2hr 20 minutes in the 2nd round coming from behind on May 22, 2019. Agut broke Moutet’s service 6 times in the match while the latter broke his service 5 times. Agut won 3 games in a row during the match to 2 by Moutet. Moutet, who had reached the final of ATP Challenger at Samarkand, Uzbekistan, last week, fired 7 Aces in the match to 4 by Agut. Moutet, however, committed 5 double faults to 1 by Agut.
Third seed Shapovalov, 20, beat World No 61 Ugo Humbert, 20, France, in three sets 2-6, 7-6, 6-2 in the 2nd round coming from behind on May 22, 2019. Both the players won 5 break points each during the match. Humbert won 5 games in a row in the match to 3 by Shapovalov. Shapovalov fired 7 Aces in the match to 6 by Humbert. Shapovalov will face World No 51 Benoit Paire, 30, France in the quarter-finals on May 23.
Aliassime, 18, the 4th seed, beat World No 55 John Millman, 29, Australia, 7-6, 7-5 in the 2nd round o n May 21, 2019, late night. Aliassime hammered 10 Aces in the match to 3 by Millman. He also won a break point besides winning three games in a row. Aliassime will face World No 59 Steve Johnson, 29, USA, in the WFs on May 23.
Taylor Fritz entered the QFs after his 2nd round opponent and World No 39 Richard Gasquet, 32, France, retired due to due to injury before the match. Fritz will face Agut in the QFs on May 23.
