China blank India 5-0 in BWF Sudirman Cup

Patna : China blanked India 5-0 in their Group 1 D match in Badminton World Federation (BWF)  Sudirman Cup at Guangxi Sports Centre, Nanning, China, on May 22, 2019.

Reigning Olympic Champion Chen Long, China, beat World No 13 Sameer Verma, India, in straight games 21-17, 22-20 in 71 minutes in the singles while World No 3 Chen Yufei, China, beat World No 9 Saina Nehwal, India, 21-12, 21-17 only 33 minutes. Pranav Jerry Chopra & Reddy N Sikki, India, lost their doubles match to Wang Yilyu & Huang Dongping, China, 5-21, 11-21 in only 28 minutes.

Satwiksairaj Ranki Reddy & Chirag Shetty, India, also lost their doubles match to Hang Chengkai & Zhou Haodong, China, in three games 21 -18, 15-21, 17-21 in 62 minutes. Ashwini Ponnappa & Reddy N Sikki, India, lost to Chen Qingchen & Jia Aifan, China, 12-21, 15-21 in 34 minutes. India had lost to Malaysia 2-3 in their first Group match on May 21, 2019, and are now out of medal race.

Denmark beat Indonesia 3-2 in Group 1B with World No 3 Viktor Axelsen beating World No 7 Anthony Sinisuka Gingting, Indonesia, 21-9, 21-16 in 44 minutes in the men’s singles. Japan beat Thailand in their Group 1 A match.
