Patna : Top seed Dominic Thiem, 27, Austria, suffered a shock defeat at the hands of 5th seed Roberto Bautista Agut, 32, Spain, in the quarter-finals of ATP Qatar ExxonMobil Open  at Doha, Qatar, on March 11, 2021, late night.  World No 13 Roberto Bautista Agut upset reigning US Open Champion & World N0 4 Dominic Thiem 7-6, 2-6, 6-4 in 2hr 25 minutes to reach the semi-finals of the tournament.

Thiem  won 5 break points in the match to 4 by Agut.  The Austrian also won 4 games in a row during the match to 3 by the Spainiard. Thiem, however, also committed 3 double faults. The Austrian fired 5 Aces in the match to 4 by Agut, who had recently reached the final of ATP Open sud de France, at Montpellier, France. Agut, in all, won 95 points in the match to 94 by Theim, who followed 2nd seed Roger Federer, 39, Switzerland, on exodus list.

Agut will face World No 8 Andrey Rublev, 23, Russia, in the first semi-finals on March 12, 2021, night.  World No 33 Taylor Fritz, 23, USA, will face World No 42 Nikoloz Basilashvili, 29, Georgia, in second semi-finals, the same night.
