Patna/Nawada: A  team of state vigilance investigation bureau sleuths on Thursday arrested Maharshi Ram, additional district magistrate of Nawada, on corruption charges. He was caught accepting a bribe of Rs 4 lakh at his residence from a person.Vigilance bureau officials also found three foreign made liquor bottles at his official residence.

According to reports, a Hisua market resident Hiralal was embroiled in a land controversy. But his claim to the ownership of the land was rejected both by the Nawada Circle officer (CO) as well as the ADM. However, in order to reverse his own ruling, Maharshi Ram demanded Rs 5 lakh from Hiralal. The deal was settled for Rs 4.5 lakh. But Hiralal prior to the payment intimated the vigilance bureau which laid a trap and caught the ADM accepting the amount. Latter, following a raid at his official residence, the sleuths recovered 3 bottles of scotch.

On Wednesday, the vigilance sleuths had raided the office and residence of Nawada district co-operative officer (DCO), Vikram Jha, and detected unaccounted assets worth over Rs 1.5 crore.
