Gopalganj: Resentment prevails among the sugarcane growers over irregularity in weighing of their product at Sidhwaliya Sugar Mill in Gopalganj district. The farmers alleged that Mill officials were weighing five quintal less in every tractor laden with sugarcane.
One of the farmers met Civil SDO Mritunjay Kumar and at his instance submitted a written complaint with Sidhwaliya police station against Mill general manager and weighing machine operator. The local police are investigating the allegations.
Locals said that a sugarcane grower of village Bhojpurwa under Muhammadpur police station Rameshwar Singh reached Sidhwaliya Sugar Mill with his produce. The Mill officials after weighing his produce told him that he had brought 37.80 quintal sugarcane. The farmer grew suspicious and asked for re-weighing his produce. The farmer alleged that the Mill officials threatened him with dire consequences.The farmer informed the Civil SDO over telephone and the SDO directed the Mill officials for weighing the sugarcane again under video recording. This time the weight of the produce was found to be 42.85 quintal.
Civil SDO Mritunjay Kumar described the matter as serious and said that the district administration would take stern action against the mill officials.
