Patna : A day after Income-tax (IT) raids at 22 places including Delhi and Gurgaon in connection with its probe into the controversial land deals of RJD chief Lalu Prasad’s kin, hundreds of bare bodied RJD youth workers carrying sticks on May 17, 2017, attacked the state headquarters of BJP, pelted it with stones and damaged the windscreens of several vehicles parked outside its office shouting `Lalu  Zindabad’. Six BJP workers were injured in the attack.

The RJD workers were protesting BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi’s relentless attack on the RJD chief over the land deals of his family members. The BJP workers also came out of the office with sticks and tried to march towards the RJD office but were stopped by police.

Incidentally, state BJP Nityanand Rai, MP, and Sushil Modi were  holding dharna at Gardanibagh ground against corruption and hike in power tariff on the day. BJP leader Modi met DGP P K Thakur at 2.30 pm to register their protest over the RJD workers’ attack on the BJP office. Modi told the DGP that the BJP office is located in prohibited zone yet the RJD workers attacked it.

Leader of opposition Prem Kumar and senior BJP leader Nand Kishore Yadav strongly condemned the incident. ” Is this `Sushashan’ ( good governance),” wondered Nand Kishore Yadav. But, RJD spokesman Mrityunjay Tiwary blamed the BJP workers for the violence. Tiwary claimed that the RJD workers were holding peaceful protest. SSP, Patna, Manu Maharaaj said that police intervened timely to separate the fighting workers of both the parties.

Since the offices of both the BJP and RJD are located on Bir Chand Patel Path about 300 metres away from each other, police have been deployed on the road. The BJP lodged a case with Kotwali police station in connection with the incident.

HAM (S) leaders led by former CM Jitan Ram Manjhi visited the BJP office after the incident and met the injured BJP workers. They described the incident as attack on democracy. There is absolutely no governance in Bihar, Manjhi said. HAM (S) is an NDA constituent in Bihar.
