Ara : An undertrial prisoner of Ara Jail Ram Pravesh Paswan, 72, died during treatment at Ara Sadar Hospital on September 30, 2021, evening. As the news of his death spread, his family members and others reached Ara Sadar Hospital and charged the jail administration with dereliction of duty. They allegedly caught an employee of Ara jail and thrashed and injured him.
Ram Pravesh Paswan was a resident of Gausganj locality under Ara Town PS in Bhojpur district. He was in jail for the last one year. He was grand-father of another prisoner Ashish Paswan. The injured employee was identified as Santosh Kumar. Heavy police force has been deployed at Ara Sadar Hospital after the incident and the hospital was cordoned off.
Ara jail administration said that Ram Pravesh Paswan fell ill in the evening on September 30, 2021, evening, and was admitted to Ara Sadar Hospital but he breathed his last there during treatment.
Bhojpur SP Vinay Tiwari said that an inquiry is on into the death of the prisoner and added that an FIR would be lodged against the persons involved in thrashing of a jail employee. A three member committee of the doctors performed post-mortem.
Santosh Kumar, a clerk at Ara jail, said that he came with the ailing prisoner to Ara Sadar Hospital where he died after which his family members got angry and thrashed him.
It may be mentioned here that some armed miscreants had shot dead Mithun Paswan, son of a property dealer Nand Kishore Paswan, on June 8, 2020, in Gausganj locality and a named FIR was lodged against nine persons including Ashish Paswan. Under mounting police pressure, Ashish Paswah surrendered before the court on July 3, 2020, and was sent to jail whil his grandfather Ram Pravesh Paswan surrendered on September 18, 2020, and was in jail since then.
