New Delhi : India logged a total of 3,11,170 new Covid-19 cases in last 24 hours, down from 3,26,098 cases on May 15, 2021, taking the tally to 2,46,84,077 cases in the country at 8 am on May 16, 2021. In an important development, a total of 3,62,437 Covid-19 patients were declared cured / discharged in the country in last 24 hours, up from 3,53,299 patients declared cured / disvharged the previous day, taking the tally to 2,07,95,335 in the country on May 16, 2021. The recovery rate (RR) of Covid-19 patients improved to 84.25% in the country on May 16, 2021, up from 83.83 % the previous day.
Active cases stood at 36,18,458 in India on May 16, 2021, a decline of 55,344 cases in last 24 hours, and accounted for 14.66% of the total Covid-19 cases (2,46,84,077) recorded so far in the country. The country has tested 31,48,50,143 samles so far including 18,32,950 samples on May 15, 2021. Meanwhile, 18,22,20,164 people have been vaccinated against Covid-19 in the country so far including 17,33,232 beneficiaries on May 15, 2021, according to Union Health Ministry figure.
India recorded 4,077 new deaths due to Covid-19 in last 24 hours taking the tally to 2,70,284 in the country on May 16, 2021. The new deaths included 960 in Maharashtra, 349 in Karnataka, 337 in Delhi, 303 in Tamilnadu, 281 in Uttar Pradesh, 216 in Punjab,197 in Uttarakhand, 149 in Rajasthan, 144 in West Bengal, 144 in Haryana, 129 in Chhattisgarh, 98 in Andhra Pradesh, 95 in Gujarat, 73 in Bihar, 72 in Madhya Pradesh, 65 in Jharkhand, 63 in J&K, 63 in Assam, 58 in Goa, and 21 in Meghalaya. India had recorded 3,890 new deaths on May 15, 2021.
