Patna : Fifth seed Alexander Zverev, 24, Germany, who had stunned five-time champion & top seed Rafael Nadal, 34, Spain, in quarter-finals of Mutua Madrid Open, an ATP Masters 1,000 clay court event, at Madrid, Spain, on May 7, 2021, upset 3rd seed & reigning US Open Champion Dominic Thiem, 27, Austria, in straight sets in the first semi-finals in 1hr 37 minutes to move into the final of the tournament. Zverev beat Thiem  6-3, 6-4.

Zverev won 3 break points during the match to 1 by Thiem. The German also won 4 games in a row in the match to 2 by the Austrian. The Germa fired 6 Aces during the match to 1 by the Austrian. Zverev, in all, won 68 points in the match to 58 by Thiem.

Zverev will face the winner of the second semi-finals between 8th seed Matteo Berrettini, 25, Italy, and World No 22 Casper Ruud, 22, Norway. in final. Berrettini beat 16th seed & World No 25 Cristian Garin, 24, Chile, 5-7, 6-3, 6-0 in QFs on May 8, 2021.
