Patna : Sri Lanka (SL) beat West Indies (WI) by 43 runs in the 2nd T20I at Coolidge Cricket Ground, Antigua, on March 5, 2021, late night, to level the three-match series 1-1. SL leg spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, 23, took 3/17 in 4 overs and was named Player Of The Match. WI had won the first match. The win ended SL’s nine-match losing streak.
Electing to bat after winning the toss, SL scored 160/6 in 20 overs with opener Dhanushka Gunathilaka scoring 56 in 42 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes and his opening partner Pathum Nissanka scoring 37 in 23 balls with 4 fours and 1 six. Gunathilaka and Nissanka added 95 runs for the first wicket. SL captain Angelo Mathews scored 13 runs while Dinesh Chandimal scored 3. Hasaranga remained unbeaten on 19 in 11 balls with 3 fours.
Chasing a target of 161 runs, WI were all out for just 117 runs with opener Lendl Simmons scoring 21 runs in 19 balls with 2 fours and 1 six while Obed McCoy scored 23 in 7 balls hitting 2 fours and 2 sixes. Chris Gayle fell to Hasaranga for 16 in 16 balls hitting 2 fours and 1 six. captain Kieron Pollard, who had scored 6 sixes in an over in the 1st T20I, fell to off spinner Sandakan for 13 in 15 balls with hitting a six.
