Patna : Australia were 167/6 in 57 overs at stumps on Day 3 in their second innings in 1st Test against New Zealand (NZ), a D/N Test, at Perth Stadium, Perth,  Australia, on December 14, 2019, with Matthew Wade unbeaten on 8 and fast bowler Pat Cummins batting on 1. NZ medium fast bowler Tim Southee, 31, took 4/63 in 19 overs while fast medium bowler Neil Wagner took 2/40 in 17 overs. Southee and Wagner had taken 4 wickets each in Australia’s first innings.

Australia now lead by 417 runs. NZ were all out for just 166 runs in 55.2 overs on Day 3 conceding a first innings lead of 250 runs. But, Australia, who had scored 416 in their first innings, did not enforce follow on to give some rest to its fast bowlers.

Australia lost their first wicket in second innings when opener David Warner fell to Southee for 19 when the team score was 40. But, opener Joe Burns and Marnus Labuschagne added 87 runs for the 2nd wicket. Labuschagne fell to Wagner for 50 in 81 balls with 3 fours making it 131/2. Joe Burns fell to Southee for 53 in 123 balls with 6 fours making it 148/3. Steven Smith, who had scored 43 in first innings, fell to Wagner for 16 in 28 balls with 3 fours and it was 154/4. Travis Head, who had scored 56 in first innings, fell to Southee for 5 making it 160/5. Tim Paine ( captain & wk) fell to Southee for a duck and it was 160/6.
