Patna : Top seed and two-time World Champion Kento Momota, 25, Japan, edged past 2017 World Campion and 7th seed Viktor Axelsen, 25, Denmark, in a pulsating 77 minutes quarter-finals at Haixia Olympic Sports Centre, Fuzhou, China, November 8, 2019.to enter the semi-finals of Fuzhou China Open, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 750 event.

World No Momota outlasted World No 6 Axelsen 21-18, 12-21, 21-16 in the QFs. The match saw several long rallies between the two players. Axelsen won 55 rallies in the match to 54 by Momota, the winner of 30 career titles. The Japanese won 6 consecutive points in the match to 5 by Axelsen, the winner of 17 career titles. Momota now leads Axelsen 13-2 Head to Head.

World No 26 Rasmus Gemke, Denmark, also entered the SFs defeating World No 9 N G Ka Long Angus, Hong Kong, in a three-game thriller 13-21, 21-14, 22-20 in 71 minutes in QFs battling back from one game down. Gemke won 56 rallies in the match to 55 by Angus. He won 5 consecutive points in the match to 4 by Angus. It was first meeting between the two players.
