Nawada: An FIR was lodged on Friday against Maharshi Ram, the Nawada additional district magistrate (ADM), who was nabbed red-handed  by the state vigilance investigation bureau sleuths while accepting Rs 4 lakh cash as a bribe for reverting his own earlier ruling in a land dispute of Hiralal, a Hisua market business man, following recovery of liquor from his official residence on Thursday night. Nawada SDPO Sanjay Pandey informed that the FIR for possessing contraband liquor was lodged at 3 am on Friday with the Nawada town police station. The SDPO added that Maharshi faces the prospect of 10 years jail sentence on this count.

Besides the illegal cash and liquor, the vigilance sleuths had also recovered a 9 mm pistol from his residence. Although Maharshi Ram possessed a valid license for the pistol, speculation is rife whether or not the pistol’s license would be cancelled by the authorities. It also remains to be seen whether as per the new law for illegal possession of liquor, his family members who reside at his Phulwarisharif residence in the state capital, would be booked or not.

Coming within 24 hours of the nabbing of  Nawada district co-operative officer (DCO) Vikram Kumar Jha, for possessing crores of cash and assets disproportionate to his knwn source of income, Maharshi Ram’s arrest has shocked the citizens as well as Nawada officials. As many as 17 persons have been nabbed by the vigilance sleuths from Nawada in a span of two year.
