Ara : Veer Kuer Singh University (VKSU), Ara, administration has now decided to hold Senate Meeting twice a year now. The VKSU administration has started work in this direction.
As per Bihar University Act, it is mandatory for a university to convene the meeting of the Senate twice a year because the Senate passes all the statutes and budgets for the university. In the first meeting, the senate passes the budget for the university and in the second meeting after six month, academic problems and other issues are discussed and decisions are taken in this regard.
But since its foundation in 1992, the VKSU never followed the rules and regulations laid down in the Bihar University Act regarding holding the Senate meeting and the university administration convened the Senate meeting in the month of January or February every year just to get the budget of the university passed. The Senate was constituted till last year without a student leader and without election of its members for the last ten years. Only this year, the Senate wore a new look and its new members were elected.
At the Senate meeting of the VKSU presided over by the then Vice-Chancellor, VKSU, Md Sayyad Mumtazuddin in 2018, the issue was raised and it was decided in principle to hold the senate meeting twice a year but in vain. Again this year in February, the matter was raised at the Senate meeting of the VKSU and the university administration consented to convene the Senate meeting twice a year.
