Patna : World No 5 P V Sindhu, India, defeated World No 20 Aya Ohori, Japan, in a tough three-game contest on July 25, 2019, to enter the quarter-finals of Daihatsu Yonex Japan Open, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 750 event, at Tokyo, Japan. Sindhu, who had reached final of Indonesia Open last week, beat Ohori 11-21, 21-10, 21-13 in 61 minutes in the second round at Musashino Forest Sport Plaza, Tokyo, coming from behind.

Sindhu won 53 rallies in the match to 44 by Ohori. She also won 6 consecutive points in the match to 4 by Ohori. Sindho had also beaten Ohori in the Indonesia Open, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 1,000 event, last week. Sindhu now leads Ohori 8-0 Head to Head.

World No 1 Tai Tzu Ying, Chinese Taipei, and World No 3 Nozomi Okuhara, Japan, have also entered the quarter-finals of the tournament. Tai Tzu beat World No 16 Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, 19, Indonesia, 21-18, 21-15 in 29 minutes in the second round on July 25 while Okuhara beat World No 13 Mia Blichfeldt, Denmark, 21-11, 21-12 in 40 minutes in the 2nd round.

World No 24 Nitchaon Jindapol, Thailand, defeated World No 6 HE Bing Jiao, China, the 6th seed, 21-11, 21-17 in 37 minutes to reach the QFs. World No 14 Michelle Li, Canada, beat World No 29 Kim Ga Eun, South Korea, 21-12, 17-21, 21-13 in 61 minutes to enter the QFs.
