Sitamarhi : The flood situation continues to be grim in Sitamarhi district in North Bihar with waters inundating more villages on July 17, 2019. The water spilled over in eastern and southern areas. Sixteen out of seventeen blocks of the district are feeling under flood fury. Only Nanpur block has not been affected by the flood so far.

The district administration confirmed the deaths of 11 civilians including an armyman due to the flood. The army personnel Prabhat Kumar, a resident of village Bagahi village under Runnisaidpur block on leave, was electrocuted on July 17.
A three storey building of Shambhu Nath Jha in Rampadarath Nagar area of Sitamarhi town collapsed due to the erosion caused by the strong current of river Lakhandei. The building was located on the bank of the river. It was locked and vacated by the owner on July 16, 2019.
According to DM Dr. Ranjeet Kumar Singh, altogether  175 community kitchenand several shelter homes are functional in the district. Twelve shelter homes with fodder have been opened for cattleheads. The DM visited several villages under Bathanaha, Riga, and Bajpatti blocks on boat and tractor. He said that major rivers including Bagmati were showing receding trends but very slowly. Rail traffic has been completely disrupted due to the flood.
