Patna: The 70 acre campus of Nalanda Univefsity set up in co-operation with 13 East Asian and three non-east Asian countries at Rajgir, 100 km from here is the first environmental friendly campus. President Pranab Mukherjee while addressing the first annual convocation of university on Saturday said, “Nalanda University is striving to be a Net Zero energy, Net Zero Emissions, Net Zero water and Net Zero waste campus, the first of its kind in India.”

President Mukherjee said Nalanda University has attempted to link its historical legacy with urgent contemporary issues of environmental sustainability and has associated local artisans, local weavers, local farmers and local experts in field of environment and heritage. On the one hand, it has encouraged locals association, on the other hand, it tied up with 16 countries for studies. In May, President recalled, an MOU was signed between Nalanda and Peking Universities in his presence.

He said Nalanda University is the first university with international associations having a non- metropolitan location as its campus and said 120 villages were linked with it.
