Patna : Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 9 wickets in the 56th match of IPL-12 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, Maharashtra, on May 5, 2019, late night, with opener Rohit Sharma (captain) scoring an unbeaten 55 in 48 balls with 8 fours, his 2nd fifty in the tournament this year, and Suryakumar Yadav scoring 46 in 27 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes. Rohit and Suryakumar Yadav added 88 runs in 60 balls for the 2nd wicket. Hardik Pandya was named player of the Match.
MI had won the toss but opted to bowl. MI topped points table with 18 points due to their better run rate than CSK and DC. SRH has become the first team to qualify for the play off with just 12 points.
Replying to KKR’s 133/7, MI scored 134/1 in 16.1 over with Suryakumar Yadav hitting the winning six on the first ball of the 17th over bowled by Andre Russel, who conceded 34 runs in 2.1 over. Chasing the target, MI opener Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock added 46 runs for the first wicket in 37 balls. De Kock fell to fast bowler Prasidh Krishna for 30 in 23 balls hitting 1 four and 3 sixes.
Batting first, KKR scored 133/7 in 20 overs with opener Chris Lynn scoring 41 in 29 balls hitting 2 fours and 4 sixes and Robin Uthappa scoring 40 in 47 balls with 1 four and 3 sixes. Captain Dinesh Karthik fell to Lasith Malinga for 3 while all-rounder Andre Russel also fell to the same bowler for a duck. Nitish Rana scored 26 in 13 balls hitting 3 sixes.
For MI, Lasith Malinga took 3/35 in 4 overs while Hardik Pandya took 2/20 in 3 overs. Jasprit Bumrah took 2/31 in 4 overs.
