Patna : Defending champion and 2nd seed Prajnesh Gunneswaran, 29, India, entered the final of ATP Challenger at Anning, China, also known as Kunming Open tennis tournament, on April 20, 2019, beating World No 130 Kamil Majchrzak, 23, Poland, in a three-set thriller in the semi-finals.
World No 80 Prajnesh Gunneswaran beat Majchrzak 7-6, 6-7, 6-4 in the semi-finals of the clay court tournament. With both the players holding their respective serve, the first two sets went to the tie-break with Prajnesh winning the first and Majchrzak winning the second. Prajnesh, however, broke Majchrzak’s service in the first game itself to take a lead.
Prajnesh will face the winner of the second semi-finals between World No 211 Jay Clarke, 20, England, and World No 295 Goncalo Oliveira, 24, Portugal, in the final on April 21, 2019. Clarke was leading 4-1 in the first set in the semi-finals.
Prajnesh had won the Anning Challenger title in 2018, his first challenger title, beating World No 191 Mohamed Safwat, 28, Egypt.
