Patna : World No 1 Kento Momota, 24, Japan, beat World No 9 Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, 22, Indonesia, in a tough three-game contest in the final to win the men’s singles title at Singapore Open 2019, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 500 category tournament, at Singapore Indore Stadium, Singapore, on April 14, 2019.
Top seed Momota beat 7th seed Ginting 10-21, 21-19, 21-13 in 73 minutes in the final on April 14. Momota won 52 rallies in the match to 53 by Ginting. He won 9 consecutive points in the match to 8 by Ginting. Momota now leads Ginting 7-3 head to head. Momota had defeated World No 3 Viktor Axelsen, Denmark, in the semi-finals on April 13, 2019, while Ginting had defeated World No 4 Chou Tien Chen, Taiwan.
Reigning World Champion Kento Momota had won All England Open Badminton Championships on March 10, 2019, defeating Viktor Axelsen, Denmark, in the final.
