Patna : World No 16 Lin Dan, 35, China, a two -time former Olympic Gold Medallist and five-time former World Champion, beat World No 5 Chen Long, 30, China, the reigning Olympic champion and two-time former World Champion, in a three-game thriller in 78 minutes in the final to lift the men’s singles title at Celcom Axiata Malaysia Open 2019, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 750 category tournament, at Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on April 7, 2019.
A three-times former Asian Games Gold Medallist Lin Dan also known as Super Dan beat Chen Long 9-21, 21-17, 21-11 coming from behind. Chen Long, the winner of 30 career titles, was all over Super Dan in the first game. Dan, however, came back strongly to win the next two games completely dominating the proceedings.
Dan won 51 rallies in the match to 49 by Chen. He also won 6 consecutive points in the match to 5 by Chen. Dan now leads Chen 9-7 head to head. Born at Longyan, Fujian, China, Lin Dan has won 65 career titles.
